NGC 527 is a lenticular galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the Sculptor constellation in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 257 million light years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter. Together with PGC 5142 , it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair.
The galaxy trio NGC 526 / PGC 5120 / PGC 5135 is located about three arc minutes north .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on September 1, 1834 .
