NGC 505 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 252 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 489 , NGC 509 , NGC 516 , NGC 518 .
The object was discovered on October 1, 1864 by the German astronomer Albert Marth .
