NGC 495 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 190 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light-years across. Together with five other galaxies, it forms the NGC 499 group ( LGG 24 ).
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 496 , NGC 498 , NGC 499 , IC 1684 .

The Type Ia supernova SN 1999ej was observed here.

The object was discovered on September 12, 1784 by the German-British astronomer William Herschel .
