NGC 494 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sab in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 250 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 145,000 ly.
In the same area of ​​the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 504 , IC 1685 , IC 1687 , IC 1688 .

The object was discovered on November 22, 1827 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
