NGC 486 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E0 in the constellation fish on the ecliptic . The galaxies NGC 488 , NGC 490 , NGC 492 , NGC 500 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on December 6, 1850 by the Irish astronomer Bindon Stoney, an assistant to William Parsons .
