NGC 502 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 117 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light-years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 489 , NGC 505 , NGC 509 , NGC 518 .
The object was discovered on September 25, 1862 by the German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Ludwig d'Arrest .
