Caius Dobrescu

Caius Dobrescu (* 1966 in Brașov ) is a Romanian poet, essayist and novelist.

Life

Caius Dobrescu studied English and French philology at the University of Bucharest until 1991 . Subsequently, scholarship holder at the University of Vienna with work on Johann Gottfried Herder . His first book was published in the same year. He started out as a poet, but has also published a novel and several volumes of essays in the following years.

Dobrescu is considered to be one of the most original, aesthetically and intellectually daring authors of recent Romanian literature. Since 1998 he has been a board member of the Romanian Writers' Association and lectures in comparative literary and intellectual history at the Transylvania University in Brașov .

In 2005/2006 he received a scholarship from the international artist house Villa Concordia in Bamberg . 2009 Dobrescu got together with his translator Gerhardt Csejka the price of Münster for European poetry for his collection of poems "Ode to free enterprise," also the first German-language book of the Romanians.
