International artist house Villa Concordia
The international artist house Villa Concordia in Bamberg was founded on October 20, 1997 by the Bavarian State Ministry for Science, Research and Art . From 1997 to 2010 it was directed by Bernd Goldmann , and since April 2010 it has been directed by the poet Nora-Eugenie Gomringer .
structure
The artist and scholarship house operated on behalf of the Free State of Bavaria annually offers artists of the visual arts, literature and music from Germany and each other country the opportunity to work on their own projects within the framework of a residence and living scholarship without obligations, and if so desired To present the audience in events.
The scholarship holders are selected by a board of trustees and its experts. A personal application is not possible. The scholarships do not serve to promote young talent, but rather give established artists the time and space to conceive, realize or complete projects.
Exhibitions, readings and concerts with the scholarship holders take place regularly in the Künstlerhaus. In the context of readings, exhibitions, concerts and other events, all artists can present themselves and their work with lectures or project presentations. In addition, the Künstlerhaus establishes and maintains contacts with other organizers and artistic cooperation partners as well as with institutions in other districts of Bavaria in order to be able to present the artists to as large an audience as possible, even beyond the time of the stay in Bamberg. Because new art should come into conversation, should be read, seen and heard, should be experienced. Not only the artist, but also the reader, viewer and listener give art its existence, its liveliness.
The board of trustees and experts appointed by the board of trustees propose the artists to the Bavarian State Minister for Science and Art, who are then invited by the latter for either 5 or 11 months.
building
The institution Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia has two buildings that now house scholarship holders. The main building is the baroque Villa Concordia itself, which the court clerk Ignaz Tobias Böttinger commissioned between 1716 and 1722 and which was probably built by the architect Johann Dientzenhofer.
In addition to the administration of the institution, there are studios in the villa, a glass extension with apartments and a hall that can accommodate almost two hundred visitors and is used for concerts, exhibition openings and readings related to the scholarship holders.
The Neue Ebracher Hof , only a few minutes away , is used as a branch of the artists' house and houses other artist's apartments and studios.
Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is appointed by the Minister of State for Science and Art and has been changing from the founding board to the appointed board of trustees every 3 years since 2003, whereby a repeated appointment is permitted according to the rules of the Künstlerhaus.

Goal setting
“The international artist house Villa Concordia serves to promote and maintain the arts and to deepen the cultural relations between the Free State of Bavaria and other states. By accepting artists from other European countries, the Free State of Bavaria wants to make a contribution to promoting the European idea. In addition, through cooperation with local institutions, through public appearances by the scholarship holders and through its own events, the International Artists' House should make a contribution to the cultural life of the city of Bamberg and the region. "
