Johannes Quint

Johannes Quint (born October 26, 1963 in Bonn ) is a German composer and video artist .

From 1982 onwards, Quint first studied musicology and philosophy at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1985 he began studying composition with Günther Becker at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf and with Friedrich Jaecker at the Cologne University of Music and Dance . He then continued his studies in 1990 with Hans Zender at the Frankfurt University of Music , with a diploma in composition in 1993.

Quint received several grants , including 1992 from the Hessische Kulturstiftung , 1993/94 from the Berlin Senate , 1995 from the association Frankfurter Künstlerhilfe e. V., earmarked for participation in the Wittlich New Vocal Music Week , as well as a working grant from the State of Bavaria in 2000/2001 for a one-year stay in the international artist house Villa Concordia in Bamberg .

Quint received composition commissions for the Camerata Quartet Warsaw as part of the Frankfurter Feste 1992, for the Ensemble Modern in 1993 and for the MusikFabrik NRW on the occasion of the Musik-Biennale Berlin in 1995. In 1998 he was a prizewinner at the composers' seminar of the Klangforum Wien , one year later he was selected for the composers ' seminar at Künstlerhaus Boswil . His works are performed by major ensembles from the field of new music and recorded for both radio and CDs.

In 1996, Quint became a lecturer in music theory and computer music at the Frankfurt University of Music and, from 1998, at the Cologne University of Music, where he was appointed Professor of Music Theory in 2009 and teaches at the Aachen Department . His music-theoretical work focuses on the works of the 20th century, especially works from North America, as well as the works of Frédéric Chopin .

Quint's compositional focus was originally on works for traditional instruments. Since 2014 he has shifted his artistic interest to the connection between music and experimental animation film.
