Friedrich Jaecker (born October 27, 1950 in Soest ) is a German composer .

Life

Jaecker graduated from high school in 1969 and then began studying at the Detmold University of Music (composition, music theory, piano, school music, musicology), which he completed in 1975. He then studied composition with György Ligeti at the Hamburg University of Music for two years from 1975 to 1977 and at the same time completed musicological studies at the University of Hamburg . Since 1977 he has worked as a lecturer and since 1980 as a professor of composition at the Cologne University of Music .

music

After constructivist beginnings (e.g. description of a decay for orchestra, in excelsis for 3 keyboard instruments and 3 percussionists, both 1976) and an excursion to trash (e.g. chamber opera “Dir, always only Dir ...”, 1977– 80) Jaecker turned intensely to observing the composition process. In the works he has created since then he has used the most economical means. Sounds or single tones surrounded by pauses are enriched with relationships in such a way that there is less the impression of dissolution than of potentiation (e.g. ..., ensemble for various solo instruments or singing and ensemble, 1992–97, orchestra, 1996). In this way, semantic or expressive elements could also be reached (e.g. Sphinx, 1999, Schrei, 2001). Recently, Jaecker's interest has also focused on musical spatial concepts ( Harry's Dream for 33 glasses and voices, 2012; in us for 25 voices in 5 groups, 2013).
