Thomas Beimel

Thomas Beimel (born May 30, 1967 in Essen ; † June 29, 2016 in Wuppertal ) was a German composer , musicologist and violist .

Beimel studied with Konrad Grahe at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen and with Karin Wolff viola. From 1988 to 1992 he studied instrumental pedagogy at the University of Music in the Rhineland . In 1989 he founded the Partita Radicale ensemble with Ortrud Kegel, Gunda Gottschalk , Karola Pasquay and Ute Völker , which also plays new improvisational music. Since 1991 he has worked in musicology on new music in Romania and Eastern Europe, since 2003 also on Latin America.

In 1997, Beimel began studying composition with Myriam Marbe in Bucharest . His opera Idyllen nach Jean Paul was premiered in 1999, followed by stage music for the theater version of Franz Kafka's story In der Strafkolonie . Together with Gunda Gottschalk, Beimel received a work and production grant from the North Rhine-Westphalia Film Foundation in 1999/2000 , which was used to realize the radio play “Das Paradies”. From 2005–2006 he received a scholarship at the international artist house Villa Concordia in Bamberg , and was also composer in residence with the Bavarian Chamber Orchestra .
