The Alþingishúsið in Reykjavík

The Alþingishúsið is a building from the 19th century in the center of the Icelandic capital Reykjavik . It houses the Icelandic parliament Althing . The building was designed by the Danish architect Ferdinand Meldahl and constructed from dolerite from 1880 to 1881 .

The building already housed the national library and a museum, and later also the national gallery. The University of Iceland used the premises from 1911 to 1940 . Until 1973 it was the official residence of the President of Iceland .
