Rainer Merkel (born May 26, 1964 in Cologne ) is a German writer .

Life

Rainer Merkel completed a degree in psychology and art history in Berlin , which he graduated with a diploma. He worked in a multimedia agency and as a psychologist on a fee basis . Today he lives as a freelance writer in Berlin.

Rainer Merkel received the following awards, among others: in 1999 a scholarship from the Literary Colloquium Berlin , in 2001 the literature award from the Jürgen Ponto Foundation , in 2002 a scholarship from the artist house Villa Concordia in Bamberg and in 2003 a scholarship from the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles . He has been a member of the PEN Center Germany since 2005 .

In 2009 his novel Lichtjahreaway was nominated for the German Book Prize and reached the finals of the best six novels.
