Literature Prize of the Jürgen Ponto Foundation
The Jürgen Ponto Foundation Literature Prize , initially awarded as the Jürgen Ponto Foundation Literature Prize , is named after the banker Jürgen Ponto , who was murdered on July 30, 1977 by terrorists from the Red Army Faction . The prize has been awarded annually since 1978 by the Jürgen Ponto Foundation of Dresdner Bank (now Commerzbank ). Applications can only be submitted through the publisher who will publish the manuscript in the same year. According to the statutes, it is awarded to young authors who “... are working on their first book manuscript and show a special literary talent”. The purpose of the award is to support them "... on their way to a professional writing career". The prize has been endowed with 15,000 euros since 2002.
As a further promotion of literature, the Jürgen Ponto Foundation has been holding an annual writing workshop in the manor house in Edenkoben since 2005 . On two weekends every six months, ten German-speaking young authors receive advice and support from one of the Foundation's literary prizewinners and their lecturer.
