Wolfgang Hermann (writer)

Wolfgang Hermann (born September 27, 1961 in Bregenz ) is an Austrian writer.

Life

Wolfgang Hermann grew up in Dornbirn in Vorarlberg and studied philosophy and German at the University of Vienna from 1981 . In 1986 he received his doctorate in philosophy with a thesis on Friedrich Hölderlin . He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Vienna. He has been a freelance writer since 1987. In 1992 he took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt .

Wolfgang Hermann writes prose , poetry , plays and radio plays . Some of his publications have been translated into English, French, Spanish, Swedish, Arabic, Latvian, Slovenian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Hindi. He is a member of the PEN Center Germany .

He had different places of residence, as in North Africa and Sicily . From 1987 to 1990 he lived in Berlin , then in Paris and in Aix-en-Provence . From 1996 to 1998 he was a lecturer at the Sophia University in Tokyo.

Today Wolfgang Hermann lives in Vienna.
