Annual scholarship for writers from the Ministry of Science and Art of the State of Baden-Württemberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The annual scholarships for writers are literary scholarships that have been awarded annually by the Ministry of Science and Art of the State of Baden-Württemberg since 1980. Scholarship holders are writers who are connected to Baden-Württemberg by birth, place of residence or a creative focus. One of the scholarships is dedicated to children's and youth literature. Three scholarships are awarded, each endowed with € 1000 per month, for a total of € 36,000 per year. Occasionally, scholarships were split and given as half-year scholarships. The awards are associated with participation in a reading tour or reading event. The award ceremony will take place in Stuttgart .

On the occasion of the 2019 award ceremony, State Minister Theresia Bauer said about the goals :

“The awarding of state scholarships is an important component of literature funding in Baden-Württemberg. With the scholarships, we want to honor the writing work of up-and-coming authors and at the same time give them the opportunity to carry out or complete a larger work. By creating a framework that offers good opportunities for development, we keep the literary landscape in Baden-Württemberg alive and active. "

The award is made by a jury. Applications are not possible.

The scholarships are not to be confused with the annual scholarships awarded by the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation .
