Hans Peter Hoffmann

Hans Peter Hoffmann (also: Peter Hoffmann , * 1957 in Saarbrücken-Schafbrücke ) is a German sinologist , writer and literary translator .

Life

Hanspeter Hoffmann studied from 1977 to 1986 at the University of Tübingen the subjects Chinese Studies , Eastern European History and German Studies . From 1988 he was a research assistant at the Tübingen Seminar for Sinology and Korean Studies . In 1993 he was there for the Doctor of Philosophy PhD . After working as a research assistant in Tübingen since 1994 , he received his habilitation in 1999 .

Since the 1990s he has emerged with numerous translations by modern Chinese authors. In addition, Hoffmann also publishes his own prose texts and poems , for which he received the Hans Bernhard Schiff Literature Prize of the City of Saarbrücken in 2005 and an annual scholarship from the State of Baden-Württemberg in 2007 .

Hoffmann stayed several times in the People's Republic of China and Taiwan , most recently he lived in Taipei for five years and was employed at Fu-Jen University .

Hoffmann is now Professor of Sinology at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in the Department of Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies, Chinese Department.
