Angel of Death II (alternative title: Angel of Death 2 - The Prison Island Massacre , Women's Prison 4 - Escape from Death Island ) is a German independent production by Andreas Bethmann . The sexploitation film was marketed in English-speaking countries under the title Women Behind Bars 4 - Escape from Prison Island .

action

Vanessa, a young hitchhiker, is raped by her driver . She manages to call the police, but the rapist pushes drugs into the vagina of the unconscious woman . She is sentenced and arrives on the prison island Prison Island, a fortress in the sea surrounded by a deadly jungle. Mrs. Steele and her superintendent Justine rule the team of sadistic guards. The girls are tortured and drugged. Death stands on attempts to escape.

Meanwhile, a millionaire gives a team of mercenaries the job of freeing his daughter from this prison. The three elite fighters fight their way through the jungle. A smuggled informant is supposed to provide them with the latest knowledge. This is raped by the homosexual warden John for testing . Meanwhile, two of the girls manage to escape.

The mercenary team gets close to the fortress, but Eric (one of the three) is captured. Justine tries in vain to torture him to get him to talk. A guard finally scalps him. The mercenaries decide to blow up the fortress and kill all guards. All but the millionaire's daughter die in the decisive battle. She can save herself in a boat and escapes unconscious into the unknown.

background

The idea for the film came to Bethmann after the shooting of the quasi-predecessor The Angel of Death , from which a scene was cut into the film. The role of prison guard Mrs. Steele was cast with Lina Romay , the ex-partner of Jess Franco (who also has a supporting role in the film). Romay appeared in various Franco prison sexploitation films in the 1970s. The filming took about three years. Bethmann shot in the south of France and the Dominican Republic . At the end of the production in 2005 he ran out of money and first shot the thriller Exitus Interruptus . The splatter effects of the film come from Olaf Ittenbach . Numerous actors from the German splatter scene have guest appearances and supporting roles in the film. Andreas Schnaas plays a guard, Heiko Bender ( Children of the Night ) a scientist and Bethmann himself the prison doctor Dr. Morpho. Manoush, Thomas Kercmar and Erich Amerkamp have important supporting roles as elite fighters. Most of the remaining actors come from the hardcore porn scene.

publication

The film was released in several versions: A version was released for the English-speaking market under the title Women Behind Bars 4 - Escape from Prison Island , which is the director's cut and is 105 minutes long. The German rental version was released under the name Women's Prison 4 - Escape from the Island of Death in an FSK-16 version with a running time of 88 minutes. A rough cut version of 124 minutes was published in a small edition. A 4DVD box contains all three versions of the film as well as a DVD with various extras.

Reviews

The magazine Xrated , founded by the director of the film, Andreas Bethmann, praised the film for its taboo- breaking scenes. In his review on Badmovies.de, Markus Risser attests to the fact that the film is “unintentionally funny” and “not necessarily entertaining in the way the maestro imagines it to be, but entertaining”, as well as technical qualities. According to the Lexicon of International Films , it is a “speculative, cheap women's prison film; an amateur product which Jess Franco, the old master of this voyeuristic and brutal genre, pays superfluous reverence ”.
