biography

Andreas Schnaas was born in Hamburg and was enthusiastic about the cinema from an early age. Since many cinemas in his hometown were not interested in the age ratings of the films shown, Schnaas came into contact with violent martial arts , zombie and splatter films at an early age . Schnaas started his first film when he was twelve.

His first film, called Hunted , showed Schnaas and a friend killing an older man played by his grandfather. As with other of his films, the cameraman was Schnaas' father.

In 1989 Schnaas had saved 5000 DM to shoot his first feature film. Together with some friends, he filmed Violent Shit over four weekends , the story of a man who randomly murders people in incoherent scenes. Violent Shit was the first direct-to-video horror film in Germany. The film quickly gained some notoriety and was marketed in the US, Europe and Japan.

His next project was Zombie 90 - Extreme Pestilence (1990). The film was shot in English . After almost 20 years, in 2009, a dubbing was made. a. with Thilo Gosejohann, but without Schnaas' participation.

Together with his friend Stephan Aquilina, who is also the cameraman and editor of his early films, Schnaas opened the video library Hard To Get Videos , which specializes in horror films and which still exists today, but without Schnaas as the owner. In 1992 a sequel to Violent Shit followed, entitled Violent Shit 2 - Mother Hold My Hand , which was released in 1992.

It wasn't until 1997 that Schnaas' next film Goblet Of Gore was released . Between 1992 and 1995 he also worked on the third part of the Violent Shit series, Violent Shit 3 - Infantry Of Doom . However, due to financial difficulties, the film was not released until 1998.

In the following years, Schnaas turned, among other things, an unofficial remake of the film Anthropophagous by Joe D'Amato .

His two following projects were created with the help of professionals: on "Demonium", Schnaas worked with the Italian effects artist Sergio Stivaletti and the TV presenter at the time Charlotte Roche , on "Nikos" with trash director and Troma founder Lloyd Kaufman (Toxic Avenger ) and musician Bela B ("The Doctors").

His next project "Don't Wake the Dead" took more than 4 years from the start of shooting to the DVD evaluation, due to production difficulties such as the dropping of some actors.

He directed three films together with the rapper and independent director Timo Rose ("Mutation", 1999).

At the same time, Schnaas is also the singer of the thrash metal band "Defäkaltorische Euphorie".

In 2015 his early work "Violent Shit" was remade by the Italian Luigi Pastore. In this horror film, Schnaas plays a small role as Paul Glas.

Schnaas is currently shooting a new "Human Centipede" film (status: 2018).
