Dorothea Grünzweig (born December 25, 1952 in Korntal near Stuttgart) is a German writer. She mainly writes poems and essays on literature. She also translates poetry from English and Finnish .

Life

Grünzweig grew up as the daughter of Pastor Fritz Grünzweig with her two siblings in Korntal. She studied German and English in Tübingen and Bangor ( Wales ). She then did research on the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins at Oxford University and worked at the Scottish University of Dundee . She then returned to Germany and worked for seven years as a teacher at a boarding school in Baden-Württemberg.

In 1989 she moved to Finland , where she taught at the German School in Helsinki for nine years . Since 1998 she has been living as a freelance writer and translator in Hausjärvi in southern Finland. She translates poetry from English, Finnish and Vogul and writes essays on literature. In her poems she reflects on life in the far north, evokes landscape, culture and language, including music, e.g. B. those of the organ, the human voice, the sounds of nature.

In 1997 she made her debut with the poetry volume Midsummer Section , for which she received the Poetry Prize of the Lower Saxony Foundation, of which she was a scholarship holder. In addition, she supports young writers, for example at the Wolfenbüttel Literature Laboratory .
