Hausjärvi [ ˈhɑu̯sjærvi ] is a municipality in southern Finland with 8417 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018). It is in the countryside Tavastia 20km east of the city of Riihimäki and 25 km north of Hyvinkää . The distance to the capital Helsinki is 85 km. Hausjärvi has three settlement centers: Oitti, the administrative center of the municipality has around 2416 inhabitants (end of 2005), Ryttylä 1842 and Hikiä 1135.
Hausjärvi was detached from the Janakkala parish in 1611 and became its own chapel community. In 1856 Finland's first public school opened in the village of Erkylä in Hausjärvi. The political municipality Hausjärvi has existed since 1868. Part of Hyvinkää belonged to the historic municipality of Hausjärvi until 1918 and the present urban area of Riihimäki until 1922.
Sights in Hausjärvi are the wooden church from 1789 and the local history museum, located in a granary built in 1853.
