Janakkala [ ˈjɑnɑkːɑlɑ ] is a municipality in southern Finland with 16,447 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018). It is in the countryside Tavastia about 15 km south of the city of Hämeenlinna and 90 km north of the capital Helsinki .
geography
Janakkala located at the headwaters of Vanajavesi Lakes area that the water system of Kokemäenjoki flows through -Flusses. The waters in the surrounding area flow into Lake Kernaalanjärvi, which in turn is drained into Lake Vanajavesi via the Hiidenjoki River. In addition, numerous oser are characteristic of the landscape. The flat areas between the Osern are fertile and used for agriculture.

Janakkala has two settlement centers: Turenki with (7079 inhabitants on December 31, 2004), and Tervakoski (4881 inhabitants). The parish village of Tarinmaa follows with only 396 inhabitants in fourth place behind Leppäkoski (435 inhabitants). Other villages in the municipality are Heinäjoki, Hiisi, Hyvikkälä, Kerkkola, Kernaala, Kiipula, Kiri, Koljala, Löyttymäki, Mallinkainen, Melkkola, Napiala, Saloinen, Sauvala, Tanttala, Uhkoila, Virala and Vähikkälä. A total of three quarters of the community's residents live in built-up areas. The population of the municipality is increasing thanks to the proximity to Hämeenlinna and the property policy of the municipality.

history
The first written mention of Janakkala comes from the year 1341. During the time of the Swedish rule numerous manors were built in Janakkala. Janakkala is one of the municipalities in Finland with the largest number of mansions. Some of the manors are still owned by the old noble families. The political municipality of Janakkala has existed since 1866.

Attractions
The stone church consecrated to St. Lawrence was consecrated in 1520. The main attractions of Janakkala include the Puuhamaa adventure park and the Kalpalinna ski center, which has 12 slopes with a length of up to 450 meters.
