Lynx (heraldic animal)

The lynx as a heraldic animal is a common figure in heraldry . The model is the Eurasian lynx . It is mainly used in Scandinavian heraldry. Its representation is similar to that of other cats in heraldry. The lynx is usually shown standing on all fours in the coat of arms and can be recognized by the squat body and the tufts of hair on the ears. The short tail often has a different colored tip, mostly it is black. It also happens that only the head is depicted on the shield. Then the bearer of the coat of arms usually chooses the frontal view, the face of the animal is placed "en face". In the Swiss community of Luchsingen it is the reason for the talking coat of arms .
