Purmo
Purmo is part of the municipality of Pedersöre in the Finnish landscape of Österbotten with approx. 1400 inhabitants. The majority of the inhabitants are Finland-Swedes .
Purmo consists of the villages Lillby, Nederpurmo (fi. Ala-Purmo), Åvist and Överpurmo (fi. Yli-Purmo). The place was an independent municipality between 1868 and 1976. Purmo was incorporated into what is now the municipality of Pedersöre through a law to merge municipalities in January 1977.
The place covers an area of 261.0 km 2 and had 1711 inhabitants when the municipality was dissolved. On January 1, 2012, only 1,433 residents lived in Purmo.
Attractions
The so-called "Losten" in Överpurmo is Finland's largest boulder . In Purmo there is an open-air museum (Fagerbacka fäbodställe) about life around 1900 and the remains of a Stone Age settlement (Hundbacka).
The wooden church in Purmo is from 1772.
