Reko Lundán (born April 2, 1969 in Janakkala , Finland , † October 27, 2006 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish writer , playwright and theater director .

Life

Reko Lundán studied dramaturgy at the Helsinki Theater Academy from 1989 to 1994 . In his senior year he made his debut as a dramatist with Raivoavan granddaughter syli . Until 2003 he wrote four pieces, all of which he performed at the KOM Theater in Helsinki. With his play Ettemme harhaan kääntyis , he made his debut as a director and author at the Finnish National Theater . He adapted Kjell Westö's novel Drakarna över Helsingfors for theater and in 2005 was allowed to direct Shakespeare's King Lear at the Finnish National Theater.

In 2003 Lundán was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Together with his wife, he processed the diagnosis and how to deal with impending death in his last, Roman Viikkoja, kuukausia, published in 2006 . Lundán hardly spoke about his health in public and when the book was published he insisted on making it clear that the story of a family man who shortly before death was not his personal, but a fictional one. The book itself was published in early October 2006. Lundán himself died on October 27 and was buried in the Hietaniemi cemetery. He couldn't see the success of the novel any more. In 2007, it was awarded the Thank You for the Book Medal .
