The Helsinki Theater Academy ( Finnish : Teatterikorkeakoulu ; Swedish : Teaterhögskolan ) is Finland's only university for the performing arts . The Helsinki Theater Academy was established in 1979 from the merger of Suomen Teatterikoulu and Svenska Teaterskolan .

In early 2013, the Theater Academy merged with the Helsinki Art Academy and the Sibelius Academy to form the Helsinki University of the Arts .

courses

The Teatterikorkeakoulu offers in the area of dance and theater the best instruction in Finland and is also active in research in these fields. At the Theater Academy can with the Bachelor and Master graduate and drama in Finnish and Swedish doctorate dance art, as in dramaturgy (dance and choreography), stage equipment, as well as dance and theater education. Eleven courses and a number of advanced training courses are currently offered. Around 400 students study at the theater academy. A graduate of the theater academy holds either the title Magister der Theaterkünste or Magister der Tanzkünste .

The theater academy has been a college for drama since it was founded in 1979, for dance from 1983, for lighting and sound design from 1986 and for the presentation of art since 2001. The current rector is the dancer and choreographer Paula Tuovinen (Master of Philosophy) and the Swedish-speaking professor of drama Erik Söderblom is the vice-rector. The theater academy publishes the magazine Teatterikorkea-lehti .

The theater academy stages around 40 premieres every year. The performances are public, more detailed information can be found on the website of the theater academy.

location

The premises of Theaterakademie are in the Haapaniemenkatu 6 (teak Kookos) and is Lintulahdenkatu 3 (stage equipment, lighting and acoustics) in the Helsinki area Sörnäinen . The buildings on Haapaniemenkatu started operating in 2000 and the campus on Lintulahdenkatu has been in use since 2007. The main building used to be the soap and margarine factory in Haapaniemenkatu and the elevator factory of the “ Kone ” company . On the premises there is a large theater hall for performances and a large library specializing in the performing arts. The premises in Lintulahdenkatu are located in a former warehouse belonging to the "Elanto" company.
