The University of Tampere ( Finnish Tampereen yliopisto ; Swedish Tammerfors universitet ) is a state university in Tampere , Finland . It has around 20,000 students and a good 2,000 employees.
In the 2018 winter semester, more than 22,000 high school graduates applied to the University of Tampere (as part of the joint application process of the Finnish universities), of which around 2,000 were accepted after an entrance examination or on the basis of their high school diploma. More than 1000 Masters and 100 PhDs from the University of Tampere graduate each year.
The University of Tampere offers a wide range of different subjects. The university's graduates are often recruited into both the private and public sectors. There they work as experts and experts in the areas of research, administration, communication and management.
history
Originally founded in Helsinki as a university in 1925 , it was moved to Tampere in the 1960s and recognized as a university in 1966 . In the early 1970s, the university expanded and developed into its present form. Until January 2011 the university consisted of the following six faculties:
- Faculty of Business Administration and Administration
- Faculty of Education
- Faculty of Social Sciences
- Faculty of Information Science
- Humanistic Faculty
- Medical school
At the beginning of 2011, the 30 institutes and the six faculties were merged as today's nine departments.
