The Technical University of Tampere ( TUT ; Finnish Tampereen teknillinen yliopisto , TTY) was the second largest technical university in Finland until it merged with the University of Tampere . The university was in Hervanta , a district of Tampere . Most recently it had around 13,000 students and around 2,000 employees.

The TUT was founded in 1965 as a branch of the Helsinki University of Technology and received full university status in 1972. Initially state-owned, it has been supported by a private foundation since 2010 and served teaching and research. The latter mainly focused on applied science. There were close relationships with the companies in the neighboring Hermia technology center as well as with Nokia: The group maintains a large research and development center in the immediate vicinity of the former TU Tampere.

In 2003, the University changed the name from Tampereen teknillinen korkeakoulu ( Technical University of Tampere ) in Tampereen yliopisto teknillinen ( Tampere University of Technology ), then the Finnish name of the German and English name (the Tampere University of Technology ) accessible.

Since the beginning of 2019, the Technical University no longer exists, but is now part of the new Tampere University .
