A playwright , also a playwright called, is a writer who plays ( plays written).

Some playwrights have focused on certain theater genres , such as comedy (comedy writer) or tragedy (tragedy writer ).

Sometimes subjects from narrative literature are brought onto the stage after they have been edited by theater authors ( dramatization ). Examples are the arrangements of Karl May's works for the Karl May Games on various stages.

Theaters acquire the right to put a certain play by a playwright into a stage work, either abridged or unabridged. The theater director has the task of bringing the text onto the stage as an act. Sometimes this is done by the author himself.
