The Kokemuchtenjoki [ ˈkokeˌmæenˌjoki ] ( Swedish Kumo älv ) is a river in western Finland .
The river begins near the town of Vammala with its outflow from Lake Rautavesi and flows westward through the Pirkanmaa and Satakunta landscapes . After 121 km it flows into the Gulf of Bothnia near the city of Pori . Along with the Vuoksi and the Kymijoki, the Kokemäjoki is one of the three outflows in the Finnish Lake District and drains its western lakes.
The mouth of the Kokemuchtenjoki lies on one of the largest estuaries in the Nordic countries. In 1914, near Suuniemenranta, the heaviest fish ever caught in Finland, a 150 kg sturgeon, was taken from the river .
The Loimijoki , the Kauvatsanjoki and the Harjunpäänjoki are important tributaries of the Kokemäenjoki .
The Kokemuchtenjoki forms the lower section of a river system that drains Lake Pyhäjärvi and its catchment area via Nokianvirta , Kulovesi and Rautavesi .
