The Künstlerhaus Villa Waldberta in Feldafing is an international scholarship holder of the city of Munich , which houses artists involved in Munich's cultural projects.

History of the Villa Waldberta

The Villa Waldberta in 1902 under the name "Rock House" as part of the height mountain villa colony, an exclusive residential area in a park above the Lake Starnberg , built. From the beginning, the stately house was a meeting place for cosmopolitans and artists, shaped by the respective owners - Dutch publishers, Dresden art collectors, American patrons. After the Second World War, survivors from concentration camps ( displaced persons ) found a temporary home there. In 1966 the house came into the possession of the City of Munich through the Bertha Koempel Foundation and was inhabited by NOK President Willi Daume and his family from 1968 to 1973 . During the 1972 Summer Olympics , Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt lived in the villa and received his guests there, including Georges Pompidou and Henry Kissinger .

History of the villa as an artist house

After several years of use as a Montessori school , which Willi Daumes daughter Doreen may have inspired, the villa has been an artist's house since 1982 . In 1991 the usage concept became international, with the focus on literature and the fine arts. In 2005 the house was opened to all branches of art and culture, including culture-related sciences, "in order to be able to use the advantages of interdisciplinary thinking and working". The artists must also "be involved in a project of the City of Munich and its cooperation partners in order to sustainably promote urban cultural exchange and international cultural work."

Concept and conditions for grant holders

The Waldberta Board of Trustees and the Munich City Council select special art and cultural projects with a Munich connection for which scholarship holders are invited to the Künstlerhaus. Those responsible for the project (experts from cultural institutions and the independent scene) suggest suitable artists. These are then invited for a specific project. It is not possible for artists to apply themselves. Individuals or groups of all kinds of art are eligible to occupy the villa. Five scholarships with a monthly bonus of 1000 € each can be awarded at the same time for a stay of up to three months; A place of residence outside of Bavaria is required for a scholarship.
