Rebecca Miller
Rebecca Augusta Miller (born September 15, 1962 in Roxbury , Connecticut ) is an American director , actress , sculptor , writer and painter .
life and work
Rebecca Miller is the daughter of the writer Arthur Miller and the photographer Inge Morath . Before becoming an actress, she studied painting at Yale University . Then in 1984 she received a scholarship for the artist house Villa Waldberta in Feldafing . Attending a performance of Fellini's La Dolce Vita at the Munich Film Museum drew her interest in filmmaking. After a small appearance in the NBC film Der Fall Mary Phagan , Miller started her film career in the German film Georg Elser - Eine aus Deutschland .
She started her career as a filmmaker in 1990 with the short film Florence and directing her father Arthur Miller's play After the Fall in a New York theater. In the early 1990s, she starred alongside Harrison Ford in Henry , Kevin Spacey in Daring Play and Cliff Robertson in Wind . She starred in other films, such as Mrs. Parker and her vicious circle , before she was only active as a writer and director.
With her first work "When she saw his shoes, she knew that she would leave her husband" (in the English original: Personal Velocity ), she became internationally known as a writer. The film adaptation of three stories of the book, directed by Rebecca Miller herself, won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival . Her film The Ballad of Jack and Rose was shown at the Berlinale 2005 . In the same year, John Madden's film The Proof - Love Between Genius and Madness , based on the award-winning play of the same name by David Auburn , was released in the USA in mid-September . Rebecca Miller adapted the complex material together with Auburn for the big screen.
In 2008 her novel "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee" was published by Canongate. The German edition in a translation by Reinhild Böhnke was published by Fischer Verlag in July 2008 with the title “Pippa Lee”. In 2009 her film of the same name had its world premiere in the competition at the Berlinale 2009 .
Rebecca Miller has been married to British actor and Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis since 1996 , with whom she has two sons.
