David Auburn

David Auburn (born November 30, 1969 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American playwright and director who received a Pulitzer Prize in 2000 for his play Proof .

Life

After attending school, David Auburn completed a degree in English literature at the University of Chicago , graduating in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA English Literature). In 1996 he worked on the musical Tick, Tick ... BOOM! by the composer Jonathan Larson into a three-person piece.

After he had written a number of plays in the late 1990s, his greatest success came in 2000 with Proof . For this he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Theater in 2001. In 2005, Proof was filmed by John Madden under the title The Proof - Love Between Genius and Madness with Gwyneth Paltrow and Anthony Hopkins . For the film, Auburn wrote the literary adaptation of his play together with screenwriter Rebecca Miller .

In 2007 he directed the film Girl in the Park , for which he also wrote the screenplay, with Sigourney Weaver and Kate Bosworth in the leading roles.
