Reinhild Böhnke

Reinhild Böhnke (born December 25, 1944 in Bautzen ) is a German Germanist and literary translator .

Reinhild Böhnke studied German and English . In 1972 she did her doctorate in the Cultural Studies and German Studies section of the University of Leipzig with a dissertation on the subject of an attempt to define antonymy . She is the editor of a German-English pocket dictionary.

Since completing her studies, Reinhild Böhnke has been working as a literary translator of fiction , essays and plays from English . Renowned authors, some of whom she has translated together with her husband, include Margaret Atwood , John Cheever , Nuruddin Farah , Brian Friel , Athol Fugard , DH Lawrence , Rebecca Miller , Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie , Junichiro Tanizaki and Mark Twain . Reinhild Böhnke is particularly well known as the translator of JM Coetzee , the 2003 Nobel Prize for Literature who lives in Australia.

She received the Federal Cross of Merit for her work as a translator .

Reinhild Böhnke is a member of the “Die Fähre” association. Saxon association for the promotion of literary translation and in the Association of German-speaking Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ.

She lives in Leipzig and is married to the cabaret artist and translator Gunter Böhnke . Reinhild Böhnke has two sons.
