Gunter Böhnke (born September 1, 1943 in Dresden ) is a German cabaret artist and translator .
Life
As a five-year-old Böhnke played the fourth dwarf in Snow White , in 1957 at 13 he got a small speaking role in the life of Galilei as Cosmo Medici at the Dresden State Theater and worked as an extra until 21 and also in small cabaret performances.
After an apprenticeship as a transformer builder and graduating from high school, Böhnke worked as a chemical worker in the Dresden pharmaceuticals plant . After two failed application attempts at drama schools, Böhnke went to Leipzig in 1963 and studied English, German and pedagogy at the university there until 1968 . After completing his studies , he did not accept the offer to teach at the Leipzig children's and youth sports school. Instead, he worked as a picture editor at ADN -Zentralbild until 1970 and as a freelance English teacher at Humboldt University and as a translator. After successfully translating English and American literature (including works by PD James , Herman Melville , Edgar Allan Poe , HG Wells ) and African literature (including works by Nuruddin Farah , Meja Mwangi ), he was a foreign language editor and editor-in-chief at Edition from 1971 to 1978 Leipzig .
In 1966 Böhnke was a founding member of the student cabaret " academixer ". In 1978 he became a full-time ensemble cabaret artist and in 1988 set up as a duo together with Bernd-Lutz Lange . In 1990 he broke away from the “academixer” ensemble. From 1988 to 2004, Lange and Böhnke performed together on various cabaret stages in Germany.
Gunter Böhnke lives in Leipzig, is married to the translator Reinhild Böhnke and has two sons.
