Diana Athill

Diana Athill OBE (born December 21, 1917 in London ; † January 23, 2019 ibid) was a British author , memoir writer, literary critic and publisher.

Life

Athill studied at Lady Margaret Hall of the University of Oxford , and went after her graduation in 1939 for the BBC , where she the Second World War, over worked. She supported André Deutsch in 1948 in founding the publishing house Allan Wingate , which was operated by André Deutsch Ltd. in 1952 . rose.

Athill retired at 75, but wrote her memoirs in several volumes and translated various works from French.

2009: Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)
2010: National Book Critics Circle Award from the US Critics Circle for Somewhere Towards the End
