Diana Athill
Diana Athill OBE (born December 21, 1917 in London ; † January 23, 2019 ibid) was a British author , memoir writer, literary critic and publisher.
Life
Athill studied at Lady Margaret Hall of the University of Oxford , and went after her graduation in 1939 for the BBC , where she the Second World War, over worked. She supported André Deutsch in 1948 in founding the publishing house Allan Wingate , which was operated by André Deutsch Ltd. in 1952 . rose.
Authors Athill has sponsored over the years include Philip Roth , Norman Mailer , John Updike , Mordecai Richler , Simone de Beauvoir , Jean Rhys , Gitta Sereny , Brian Moore, and VS Naipaul .
Athill retired at 75, but wrote her memoirs in several volumes and translated various works from French.
