Cliff Robertson
Cliff Robertson ; actually Clifford Parker Robertson III (born September 9, 1923 in San Diego , California , † September 10, 2011 in Stony Brook , New York ), was an American actor .
Life
Robertson was born in the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego . He began his acting career in the mid-1950s. As an actor for difficult characters, he was often cast in leading roles, but without ever rising into the ranks of Hollywood's big stars . In 1968 he won an Oscar for best leading actor in the Daniel Keyes film Charly . His last role was that of Uncle Ben in the Spider-Man trilogy.
Cliff Robertson was married to actresses Cynthia Stone (marriage 1957-1960) and Dina Merrill (1966-1989), with whom he each had a daughter.
