Skip takes care of Jonathan and when he is no longer allowed to attend the neighboring girls' school because of a scandal, he persuades him to go to Chicago to sleep with a woman for the first time and gives him money for it. In Chicago he met the attractive and experienced Ellen. He pretends to be a graduate student, and an intense romance develops between the two.

By chance, Ellen discovers that Jonathan is going to high school and suddenly breaks off the relationship without saying goodbye. Jonathan is in despair at the sudden breakup and his feelings. His friend Skip tries to comfort and cheer him up.

Jonathan is now admitted to Harvard. At Christmas, Skip invites him to his family. There, Jonathan meets Skip's successful father and mother, Ellen. You are both surprised, but you can keep your affair a secret. Ellen sends Jonathan away very soon, but then calls him frequently at school to persuade him to meet.

An investigation is now ongoing at the school. The students believe it is about drug offenses.

Jonathan wants to meet Ellen one last time in Chicago. He tells Skip that he wants to be alone for the weekend. However, he travels after him with friends to cheer him up and catches him with his mother. From then on, Skip rarely speaks to Jonathan. Skip's father is attending his son's school. At first, Jonathan thinks it's about his relationship with Ellen. But Skip's father just wants to tell his son that his mother went to a psychiatric clinic at her own request.

Meanwhile, it turns out that the investigations at the school are about fraud in the entrance tests. Jonathan is not under suspicion, but Skip remembers that Jonathan once confessed to having bought the entrance test for the private school. However, he does not reveal anything and even insults the investigating officer as a snoop.

Jonathan provokes Skip until he fights him. They beat each other up until they both can't anymore. Then they speak up and Jonathan apologizes to Skip. After that, they reconcile and it becomes clear that after this episode their life will go on as before. A place at Harvard is also waiting for Skip.
