Stuart Margolin

Stuart Margolin (born January 31, 1940 in Davenport , Iowa ) is an American actor , director and screenwriter .

Life

Margolin attended South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas , Texas and began his career as a screenwriter on off-Broadway productions. In the mid-1960s he became an actor, initially in guest roles in television series such as Auf der Flucht and Rauchende Colts . From 1969 to 1973 he played in the sitcom Where Love Falls , where he first directed in 1973.

In 1971 he played in the western series Nichols for the first time on the side of James Garner , but this was discontinued after only one season. He became internationally known for his two Emmy Award-winning portrayal of Angel Martin in the series Detective Rockford - Call Sufficient , which he played between 1974 and 1980, and in which Garner again played the lead role. He then played with Garner in the series Bret Maverick , a new edition of the successful western series from 1957. However, this could not repeat the success and was discontinued after only one season.

Margolin also starred in a number of hit feature films in the 1970s , including Shock Troop Gold with Clint Eastwood and A Man Looks Red with Charles Bronson in the lead roles. He had other film roles in Futureworld - The Land of Tomorrow , The Steel Eagle II and Guilty of Suspicion .

In the five decades of his career he was a guest star in various series, from In Love with a Witch to M * A * S * H , Magnum and 30 Rock . Between 1994 and 1999 he repeated the role of Angel Martin on the side of James Garner in eight TV film sequels to the series Detective Rockford - a call is enough . From 2002 to 2004 he had a recurring role in the Canadian series Tom Stone .

Margolin had been working as a director since the mid-1970s, initially staging episodes of television series in which he was also involved as an actor, including detective Rockford - a call is enough and Bret Maverick . In the mid-1990s he made two films with the Olsen twins . In 1996 he received the DGA Award for the children's film A Moose Named Charlie , after being nominated for the first time in 1992 for directing an episode of Alaska, of all places . As a director, he was nominated for both an Emmy and another DGA award for the television production The Most Beautiful Gift .

Margolin is married and the stepfather of the actor Max Martini . Contrary to what is often stated, he is not related to the actress Janet Margolin .
