Janet Margolin

Janet Margolin (born July 25, 1943 in New York City , † December 17, 1993 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress .

life and career

Margolin studied performing arts in New York and earned a Tony Award nomination at the age of 18 in 1962 for her portrayal of a mentally disturbed teenager in the Broadway play Daughter of Silence . This success led to Margolin's film debut with a comparable role in Frank Perry's drama David and Lisa , for which she was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Young Actress in 1963 . In 1965 she played the Jewish woman Esther Levy in the world war film Morituri . In 1969 she was Woody Allen's partner in his early comedy Woody the Unlucky Raven . She later engaged Allen again for a small part in his hit film Der Stadtneurotiker (1977).

Despite consistently excellent reviews, Janet Margolin's breakthrough as a star failed to appear. She appeared primarily in television roles. One of her most famous films was Jonathan Demme of Alfred Hitchcock -inspired thriller Deadly Embrace (1979). Her last appearance on the big screen was in 1989 in Ghostbusters II .

Janet Margolin died of ovarian cancer at the age of 50 . She left behind her husband, actor and director Ted Wass ( Blossom ) , with whom she was married for a second time, and two children.
