The tough five (in the English original: SWAT ) is an American television series about the special police force (English: Special Weapons and Tactics ) of a fictional California city. In the United States it was broadcast in 37 episodes and two seasons from 1975-1976 on ABC . In Germany, 35 episodes from 1992–1993 were shown on Pro 7 .
action
The special unit of Lieutenant Dan "Hondo" Harrelson consists of former soldiers who are only used for particularly dangerous assignments where normal police officers cannot do anything. Large-caliber weapons and explosives are used for this purpose. The special unit drives a specially equipped and armored car with which they can get to their missions, which are often directly in the line of fire.
background
The series was an offshoot of the series California Cops - New in Action, also produced by Leonard Goldberg and Aaron Spelling . The tough five were discontinued after 37 episodes, of which only 35 were broadcast. For the time, the series was considered too violent, and it did not achieve the desired ratings. With the theme tune of the series, Rhythm Heritage had a number one hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1976 .
Adaptation
The series was adapted in the film SWAT - The Special Forces . There Steve Forrest as the driver and Rod Perry as the father of "Deacon" in supporting roles. In connection with the film, the first season of the series was released on DVD in 2003 . A remake of the series, again titled SWAT with Shemar Moore in the lead role as Hondo Harrelson, has been broadcast on CBS since 2017 .
