Barry Crane

Barry Crane , actually Barry Cohen (born November 10, 1927 in Detroit , Michigan ; died July 5, 1985 in Los Angeles ) was an American television director and television producer. He was also known as a bridge player who "won more titles than anyone in the history of the game". According to the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), he is "widely recognized as the top 'matchpoint player' of all time" - this tournament format is often played in private clubs.

Life

Crane was born in Detroit in 1927 as Barry Cohen and is later sometimes mentioned by his maiden name. He moved to Hollywood in the mid-1950s and changed his name for professional reasons.

He was an associate producer on several episodes of Cobra Take Over (original title Mission: Impossible). He is named as a director on several episodes of the following series:

He is also directing a 1972 film adaptation of The Hound of the Baskervilles, starring Stewart Granger as Sherlock Holmes.

Crane was murdered in Los Angeles on Friday, July 5, 1985. This murder case remained unsolved for over 30 years. His body was "found in the garage of his apartment in Studio City just before 3:00 pm ," apparently knocked down, and then dragged from his apartment into the garage, according to police. That week he played every day in the annual Pasadena regional knockout teams tournament .

In May 2019, Edwin H. Kurz was identified as the perpetrator with the help of DNA technology. He was arrested by the FBI and confessed to the crime.
