Mannix is an American crime series produced by Paramount Television (initially Desilu Productions ) for CBS . Between 1967 and 1975 he wrote 194 episodes of 48 minutes each, spread over eight seasons.

The main role as Armenian - American private investigator Joe Mannix was played by Mike Connors . In the first season he is employed by the detective agency Intertect under the direction of Lew Wickersham ( Joseph Campanella ), from the second season onwards Mannix works independently . He receives support from his secretary Peggy Fair ( Gail Fisher ).
Guest actors have included Tom Skerritt , Sheree North , Barry Sullivan , Cloris Leachman , Loretta Swit , Adam West , Darren McGavin , Martin Sheen , Fionnula Flanagan , Kim Hunter , Robert Loggia , Diana Muldaur , Madlyn Rhue , William Shatner , Anthony Zerbe and Susan Howard .
The series was considered a style icon of its era and was nominated twice for an Emmy and four times for the Golden Globe , which it won once.
Lalo Schifrin composed the characteristic melody .
On German television, ARD showed a total of 47 episodes from 1969 to 1973. The remaining 147 episodes only ran from 1989 to 1995 on Pro 7 and the cable channel in German for the first time.
