Tom Skerritt
Tom Skerritt (* 25 August 1933 as Thomas Roy Skerritt in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American actor .
Life
Tom Skerritt, son of a businessman, studied at Wayne State University and the University of California . At times he was also a member of the United States Air Force . Skerritt made his debut in the 1962 TV movie Combat! . In the same year he took on the first role in the movie Behind Enemy Lines . In the 1960s he made guest appearances on television series such as The Real McCoys , At the Foot of the Blue Mountains and Bonanza . He achieved his breakthrough in 1970 in Robert Altman's war satire MASH , in which he played Captain Augustus Forrest .
In the course of his career, Skerritt played in a total of over 40 films and covered a wide range of roles. The 1977 film At Turning Point , in which he starred alongside Shirley MacLaine and Anne Bancroft , received eleven Oscar nominations. In Alien (1979) he played alongside Sigourney Weaver , in Top Gun - They fear neither death nor the devil (1986) alongside Tom Cruise , in Magnolien aus Stahl (1989) alongside Julia Roberts and in Contact ( 1997) alongside Jodie Foster . At the same time, there continued to be regular television appearances. From 1992 to 1996 he played the leading role of Sheriff James Brock in the television series Picket Fences , which made him more popular than ever.
Skerritt still works as an actor. He lives alternately in Seattle and in his vacation home on Lopez Island . He has been married to Julie Tokashiki for the third time since 1998.
Awards
In 1993 he was awarded an Emmy for his role in Picket Fences . In 1994 and 1995 he was nominated for the Golden Globe - also for Picket Fences . Skerritt received the awards for Best Guest Actor at the Saturn Awards 2012 for his appearance in the series Leverage .
