Darren McGavin
Darren McGavin (born May 7, 1922 in San Joaquin , California as William Lyle Robertson , † February 25, 2006 in Los Angeles , California) was an American actor .
Life
McGavin completed his acting training at the Neighborhood Playhouse and the Actors Studio in New York . In 1945 he made his film debut in Charles Vidor's A Song to Remember . For almost ten years he played more or less small roles until a part in Otto Preminger's drama The Man with the Golden Arm , for which Frank Sinatra received an Oscar nomination, gave him his acting breakthrough. In the same year he starred again under the direction of Preminger - in the war drama Damned to Silence .
In the following years, McGavin often impersonated tough, uncompromising characters, such as Mickey Spillane's private detective Mike Hammer in a television series of the same name , in westerns such as Decision on the Big Horn or as a former convict and private detective David Ross in the television series The Loner . Special recognition attained McGavin for his role as an upright journalist and vampire hunter Carl Kolchak in the horror series The Night Stalkers , among other things, Chris Carter for his series The X-Files - The X Files inspired in McGavin therefore also in some episodes as Arthur Dales to see was - as the man who started recording the X-Files.
