Candice Mountains
Candice Patricia Bergen (born May 9, 1946 in Beverly Hills , California ) is an American actress who became known to a wide audience for her role in the television series Murphy Brown (1988–1998) and for her earlier lead role in the feature film Das Lullaby from Homicide (1970, Soldier Blue ).

She is the daughter of Edgar Bergen - a well-known ventriloquist who created the talking doll "Charlie McCarthy", for which he received a (wooden) honorary Oscar in 1938 - and Frances Westerman , who worked as a model under the name Frances Westcott .
Candice Bergen irregularly studied literature and photography without a degree. Like her mother, she began her career as a photo model, but after a short time she was offered her first roles in films (e.g. Carnal Knowledge and Starting Over ). In 1980 she received nominations for Best Supporting Actress for Auf ein Neues for the Oscar and the Golden Globe . She was awarded two Golden Globes and five Emmys for Murphy Brown . Bergen was the first woman to host Saturday Night Live .
In 1981 she married the French director Louis Malle . They have a daughter together. They remained married until his death (1995).
In January 2005, she got into the US television series Boston Legal . Until 2008 she played Shirley Schmidt, the founding and senior partner of the law firm "Crane, Poole & Schmidt". For this role, she won an Emmy ( supporting actress in a drama series = Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series ) and a Golden Globe (best supporting actress in a series, a miniseries or a television film = Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television ) nominated.
In addition to her film career, her work includes more than 50 film and television productions, she was also active as a photo reporter, wrote a play and devotes herself to painting and the visual arts . In addition to English, she speaks fluent French and Spanish.
