Joseph Campanella

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joseph A. Campanella (born November 21, 1924 in New York City - † May 16, 2018 in Sherman Oaks , California ) was an American actor who subscribed to serious, sedate and dignified characters.

Live and act

The slender, tall (1.85 meter) New Yorker has been one of the busiest television actors in his country since the early 1950s. He had previously attended Columbia University until 1949 and then underwent artistic training with Lee Strasberg . In January 1954 he made his professional debut at the theater. For a time (1962/63) Campanella also received theater roles on Broadway in New York ( The Captains and the Kings, A Gift of Time, Hot Spot ).

From 1952 onwards, television began to gain considerable importance in his career. For over half a century, Campanella was primarily a guest star in a large number of television series, but also took on continuous series roles such as Mannix and The Bold Ones: The Lawyers . Again and again he was cast as an urban serious type: he played businessmen, police inspectors, judges and several lawyers. Campanella's trips to the cinema are not exactly numerous and hardly worth mentioning.

Campanella's sonorous, well-trained voice also led to engagements as a speaker, for example at the end of the 1970s for the Canadian popular science documentary series Science International .
