Robert De Niro receives the first Oscar of his career for his performance in The Godfather II . With six Oscars, the film is the big winner of this year's Academy Awards.

March 24: Premiere of The Rocky Horror Picture Show . After a moderate start, this film will develop into a hitherto unknown type of audience attraction in the coming years. A fan base emerges that often sang along with texts and played and danced along with scenes from the film.
November 19: Premiere of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest . After It Happened in One Night , this is the second film to win Oscars in the five most important categories (best film, best director, best screenplay, best leading actor and best leading actress). George Lucas is completing a second draft of his space adventure entitled Adventures of the Starkiller, Episode One of The Star Wars .
