Robert Scott Speedman (born September 1, 1975 in London , England ) is a Canadian actor and former professional swimmer .

Speedman was born in London and grew up in Toronto , Canada . He is the son of former Scottish middle-distance runner Mary Speedman (née Campbell ) and a passionate freestyle swimmer himself. After an accident, however, he had to give up his professional career. Speedman attended Earl Haig High School in Toronto and the University of Toronto from 1994-1996 .

He applied for the role of Robin in Batman Forever , which went to Chris O'Donnell . However, Speedman noticed an agent who signed him. In 1995 he starred in the television film Net Worth and then took on guest roles in the television series, Kung Fu: The Legend Continues and Nancy Drew . The following year he starred in an episode of the Goosebumps series and the TV movie Dan and Jane: Our Dream Conquers Fear . Also in 1996, he took on roles in Can I Get a Witness? and Giant Mine .

In 1997 he stood in front of the camera for the productions of Ursa Major , Dead Silence - Flammen in der Stille and the drama Mord auf dem Campus . Other films in the same year were Kitchen Party , for which the director and screenwriter Gary Burns won three awards at film festivals, and the television film Hours of Violence .

The following year the television film Rescuers: Stories of Courage: Two Couples was released , which was nominated for the WGA Award in the Episodic Drama category. Between 1998 and 2002 he played the role of "Ben Covington" in seventy-five episodes in the series Felicity , for which he was nominated three times for the Teen Choice Award .

2000 followed Traumpaare with Gwyneth Paltrow , which appeared in Germany in May 2001 and was later broadcast on television under the title Traumpaare - Über Nacht zum Star . After the series Felicity ended in 2002, Speedman shot the action thriller Dark Blue with Kurt Russell , as well as the 2003 drama My Life Without Me , which premiered in February 2003 at the Berlin International Film Festival . Also in 2003 appeared Fantasy / Horror - action film Underworld with Kate Beckinsale and Bill Nighy . In the film, he took on the role of Michael Corvin , who involuntarily gets caught between the fronts of vampires and werewolves and becomes a hybrid of both species towards the end of the film. Speedman received from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA the price in the category "Cinescape Genre Face of the Future Award".

The following year he starred in the thriller The 24th Day and in 2005 in the second part of the xXx films xXx 2 - The Next Level together with Willem Dafoe and Ice Cube , who, however, was unable to recoup the production costs.

In the sequel to Underworld, Underworld: Evolution , which hit theaters in early 2006, Speedman again took on the role of Michael Corvin. In 2007 he played the role of Dexter in the black- humored crime comedy Weirdsville , which was followed in 2008 by the thriller Anamorph - The Art of Killing , in which he appeared again with Willem Dafoe. In the same year he starred in the drama Simon's Secret , a multi-layered story about terrorism, xenophobia and family tragedies, directed by Atom Egoyan . The drama was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2008 under the original title Adoration .

The thriller The Strangers was also released in 2008, in which he and Liv Tyler play a couple who are attacked by three teenagers. The film was nominated for several film awards. In "Forever Love" from 2012 he played alongside Leo ( Channing Tatum ), the ex-boyfriend of Paige ( Rachel McAdams ), who loses all memories in a car accident.
