The Strangers: Sacrifice Night

The Strangers is a American horror - thriller from the year 2008 . Directed by Bryan Bertino , who also wrote the script .

action

The police receive an emergency call from a boy who reports a horrific crime in a house. The actual plot of the film begins with the preceding events.

Kristen and James attend a wedding. The following night, three masked strangers break into the isolated house where they both want to spend the night. They terrorize the couple for no apparent reason, do not shy away from violence and in the process prevent any possibility of escaping them.

Because James asked to pick him up in advance, his best friend Mike came over during the night. Due to a tragic circumstance and assuming it was one of the strangers, Mike is shot by James. Later, Kristen and James are overwhelmed, tied up and finally stabbed by the foreign attackers. When Kristen asked why, one of the strangers replied: "Because you were at home."

In the final scene, two boys hand out religious flyers and meet the strangers in their pick-up that they are driving away from the crime scene. When the boys go into the isolated house, they find Kristen and James lying on the floor. James is dead, but Kristen is still alive and wakes up again.

Reviews

Victoria Alexander wrote on FilmsInReview.com on May 21, 2008, that the director and screenwriter Bryan Bertino was very talented and skillfully build suspense. The only weakness in the film is the cast of the leading roles - Tyler is too tall and has a blank-looking face; Speedman seems expressionless.

Michael Rechtshaffen wrote in The Hollywood Reporter magazine on May 29, 2008 that the psychological thriller was powerful and atmospheric. Tyler acts "surprisingly expressive" and brings a lot across with just a few dialogues.

backgrounds

In the opening credits it is stated that the film is based on a true incident and that the case has not yet been fully clarified. However, this is only partially true. The script was created from the director's imagination. When he was a child, a few strangers would ask at the family's front door about another resident of the house. Afterwards it turned out that they were burglars.

The film was shot in South Carolina . Its production amounted to an estimated 10 million US dollars . The film was supposed to be released in summer 2007 after the initial planning, but the date has been postponed several times. It opened in US and Canadian cinemas on May 30, 2008. The film grossed US $ 82.8 million worldwide, including approximately US $ 52.1 million in US theaters.

continuation

In July 2017, filming of a sequel called Strangers: Prey At Night , which was released in March 2018, was completed. In this, Johannes Roberts acts as director, Bryan Bertino as screenwriter and Christina Hendricks in one of the leading roles.
